Advance Auto Parts is downsizing its operations in response to mounting financial challenges. The company announced plans to close 523 corporate stores, four distribution centers, and withdraw from 204 independent locations by mid-2025.

Advance Auto Parts said Thursday it will close about 500 stores by mid-2025 and cut some jobs under a restructuring effort, as demand for vehicle parts takes a hit from fewer consumers opting to repair their cars, sending its shares up 4.5% in afternoon trading.

The auto parts seller is closing hundreds of stores amid waning sales. It plans to shut down four distribution centers on the West Coast.

Car pros and DIYers will have to drive a little farther or wait a little longer for new parts and accessories.

Advance Auto Parts is closing more than 500 stores and shedding another 200 independent locations. The announcement came as the struggling car parts retailer posted disappointing quarterly results.

Advance Auto has around 5,000 locations, including 251 locations in Texas, according to the company’s store locator. That ranks the Lone State State fifth behind Florida with 522, North Carolina with 293, Georgia with 259 and Pennsylvania with 253.

Iowa has 37 Advance Auto Parts locations. Des Moines has the largest presence of stores in the state with six locations in the capital city and stores in Ankeny and Urbandale. Other locations include Ames, Coralville, Davenport and Iowa City, among others.
