Richer countries have pledged to give a record $300bn (£238bn) to the developing world to help them prepare for and prevent climate change. The talks at the UN climate summit COP29 in Azerbaijan ran 33 hours late, and came within inches of collapse.

Developing countries had hoped rich countries would commit $1.3 trillion each year to help them deal with the effects of climate change and to speed up the development of renewable energy

Climate negotiators on Sunday agreed to an annual finance target of 300 billion U.S. dollars to help poorer countries deal with the impacts of climate change by 2035, a key task of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
