Israel's military says around 250 rockets have been fired by Hezbollah across the border from Lebanon, marking one of the heaviest bombardments of Israel since fighting intensified in September. Several people were injured and buildings damaged in northern and central Israel,

The U.N. Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1701 in August 2006 as part of a cease-fire that ended Israel’s last war with Lebanon. The resolution sought to create a buffer zone in southern Lebanon to prevent fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, but has failed to keep the peace.

Israel's military once again bombed buildings near the Lebanese capital Beirut on Sunday, a day after one of its strikes on a densely populated area in central Beirut killed at least 29 people, according to the latest tally from Lebanon's Health Ministry.
