Severe weather alerts warning of a "significant threat to life" are appearing on phones across the UK due to a testing error, the Met Office has said.

The Met Office has apologised after “severe” hot weather alerts were accidentally sent to mobile phones. The alerts were mistakenly sent out during testing on Thursday, incorrectly warning the public of a “significant threat to life” from high temperatures.

The alert warned Brits of a "significant threat to life" due to "high temperatures" 11.59pm on Friday, November 29. Muddled Brits were then hit by a second message warning of the entirely opposite extreme: "Severe snow or ice warning until 23.
