The Game Awards has announced the nominations for its 29 categories, and a total of 8 nominees can be played right now on Xbox Game Pass.

The Game Awards aren’t known for much in the way of shock and surprise, and so it proved with the 2024 nominees — a fairly well-rounded list in which most of the year’s best-reviewed and best-loved games got some love. But there was one title very striking for its (almost) complete absence: Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

This was the main takeaway from Monday’s nominations list. TGA’s voting jury is large and internationally diverse, and in the past its collective taste has tended to settle in a rather conservative place. But the industry’s lean year has led the jury to a suite of nominees that is varied, high-quality, and culturally rich.

Other categories honor much smaller projects that didn’t land nominations at The Game Awards. The nominees for Bite-Sized Game includes Buckshot Roulette and Clickolding, while Cryptmaster and Oddada are up for the show’s Innovation award. Here’s the full list of nominees.
