A former Fairfax County police sergeant who fatally shot Timothy McCree Johnson outside Tysons Corner Center last year has been acquitted of manslaughter following a nearly two-week trial.

The jury spent 11 hours deliberating in the case against Wesley Shifflett, who they ultimately convicted of a lesser crime in the death of Timothy Johnson.

Former Sgt. Wesley Shifflett was charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless handling of a weapon for killing unarmed 37-year-old Timothy Johnson.
