New Mexico State Police officers were involved in a shooting Monday morning in Deming. John Dwillis, 55, was shot by an NMSP officer and flown to a hospital in Texas where he is in stable condition. NMSP responded to the scene to assist the Luna County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies contacted 55-year-old John Dwillis who was standing near a vehicle, according to New Mexico State Police. This led to Dwillis shooting a firearm and entering the vehicle, where deputies retreated and called for backup.
