Romulus sequel is still on director Fede Álvarez's to-do list, but the filmmaker wants a second film to meet a certain standard.

Alien: Romulus director Fede Álvarez shares an update on a possible sequel to the movie, indicating that audiences may have to wait a while before seeing a follow-up. The filmmaker said that while he and 20th Century Studios are interested in going back to the Alien franchise,

Alien: Romulus was a big hit for Disney and 20th Century Studios and one day there will be a sequel, it’s inevitable. Director Fede Alvarez has previously said that they are actively working on another film,

Alien: Romulus hit theaters this summer and became an instant hit among audiences and critics who rated it one of the highest in the franchise on Rotten Tomatoes. Following Cailee Spaeny as Rain, joined by fellow cast members David Jonsson,

"Otherwise, you never want to fall into the mistake of making [a sequel] just because the first one is a big hit … [making a sequel] just because you can make it, that’s always a recipe for disaster," he continued. Ridley Scott is also said to be working on a new Alien movie, so there could be plenty more where that came from, too.

Made on a production budget of $80 Million, Romulus grossed more than $350 million worldwide. Director Alvarez has now become one of the most anticipated names in the genre, having already helmed films like Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe.
