China warned the Biden administration to tread cautiously on the issue of Taiwan after President Lai Ching-te landed in Hawaii on his first stopover on US soil.

Taiwan President Lai Ching-te kicked off his second day in the United States on Sunday, as China fumed over more US arms sales to the island and Lai's stopover in Hawaii that is part of his Pacific tour.

The US arms sales to Taiwan seriously violate the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, especially the August 17 Communique of 1982, a spokesperson said in the statement. The arms sales also violate China's sovereignty and security interests, the spokesperson said.
